"Because of Winn-Dixie" by Kate DiCamillo

Because of Winn-Dixie is written by Kate Di Camillo, and is about a girl named India Opal Buloni, who moves to Florida with her father. One day India goes to Winn Dixie-the super market, and finds a very nice and friendly dog there. She names the dog Winn-Dixie. There are some sad parts to the story, but it also makes you feel goodl

Because of Winn-Dixie is a book that I think 3^rd graders could read, and 2^nd graders, if they are willing to.  I thought it was a very good book. It is like one of those feel-good books that I really love.

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid" by Jeff Kinney

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is about a middle grade boy named Greg Heffley, who has a bratty little brother named Manny, an annoying older brother called Rodrick, and parents who absolutely love Manny. And then there is the cheese touch…..

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is written by Jeff Kinney, and is a very popular series. I used to not want to read them, but my friend talked me into reading them. And I thought they were the best books ever! They are so funny! I started reading the books in 1^st grade, but I think you can truly understand them when you are in 2nd grade and up.

If you liked Diary of a Wimpy Kid, you may also like Summer of the Gypsy Moths, or Falling Up.

“The Name of this Book is Secret” by Pseudonymous Bosch

The Name of this Book is Secret is by a very secretive author named _________. He won’t reveal his real name, but he calls himself “Pseudonymous Bosch”. He (or possibly she) doesn’t reveal the time, date, or true place of where anything takes place. Of course, he tells us about Cass and Max-Ernest (not their real names) and all about the Secret (not). But he still decided to write a whole story about Ms.Mauvais and Dr.L, and the Heroes, Cass and Max-Ernest.

I like the secret series because they are funny, and adventure-y kind of books. If you read them yourself, then you will know why it’s hard to explain. They are certainly a one-of-a-kind series -- I love them!

"The Serpent's Shadow" by Rick Riordan

The Serpent’s Shadow is the third in the Kane Chronicles series by Rick Riordan (The Red Pyramid and The Throne of Fire are the first and second books). The series is about two kids named Sadie and Carter, whose mom died after a magical accident. The siblings live apart and only see each other twice a year. But they would have never guessed the reason they were separated...

This book tells you a little bit about Ancient Egypt. It is really all about Egyptian Magic and gods. If you are not interested in any of those things and you still read the books, you’ll end up loving it after you read them.

"Falling Up" by Shel Silverstein

Falling Up is by Shel Silverstein and is a book of very funny poems. He always writes about things that don’t make sense, but you would probably enjoy them in the way I did. This book is good for all ages, elementary school and up. Toddlers may not understand the jokes.

"The Silver Guitar" by Kathryn Reiss

The Silver Guitar by Kathryn Reiss is an American Girl story about a girl named Julie and a boy named T.J. at an auction. T.J. gets assigned to look after the cat owned by the people who run the auction. But strange things start to happen. T.J. seems to have “broke” an irreplaceable guitar. Or HAS he………?

This book is good for people who are into those mystery type stories. It gets really suspenseful, so I advise that if you don’t like that kind of thing, you wouldn't want to read it!

"Junie B. Jones, First Grader: Boss of Lunch" by Barbara Park

Junie B. Jones, First Grader: Boss of Lunch is written by Barbra Park. So is the rest of the Junie B. series. Boss of Lunch is about a girl named Junie B. Jones who gets into some kitchen trouble from “poopy owl’s nests”, hoagies, and new lunch boxes. She goes into the kitchen and gets a job to be a real, professional lunch maker! How great is that, I ask you?

I love the Junie B. Jones book series for her grammar mistakes, and what she calls the other characters (like “That Grace” and “Tattletale May”). Junie B. books are great for all ages from 1^st grade to 5^th. She is just so much like real first graders. I hope you enjoy her. I know I do!

"The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a book about 4 children who enter a magical world called Narnia while playing hide-and-go-seek. It is hard to believe the journeys they go through in their uncle’s grand house filled with wonders, hiding in wait for their time…

This book is by C.S. Lewis, and I think is for the more advanced reader, and is one of those longer books so you must keep patient while reading. I think it’s a good book for 5^th graders and up, but I read it in 3^rd grade, so don’t hesitate to pick up a book!

"Ivy & Bean Book 1" by Annie Barrows

Ivy + Bean Book 1 Is about two 2^nd graders who form an unlikely friendship when Bean (Bernice) wants to play a trick on her older sister, Nancy. She only needs a hiding spot, but with some magic, some face-paint, a scarf and some worms, nothing could go wrong! Besides getting grounded, running away, and a bathrobe, of course.

I think that 2^nd and 3^rd graders would enjoy this book the most, but 4^th through college I’m sure would like it to. I think the books are pretty funny. I hope you do too!

"Philippa Fisher’s Fairy Godsister" by Liz Kessler

Philippa Fisher’s Fairy Godsister is a book about a 11 year old girl called Philippa who really does not like the way things are going in her life. Her parents are the strangest people around, and she is very shy, so she does not have any friends. But worst of all, her bestest friend of all time is moving far into the country side, so there is no calling, skyping, and they will barely be able to send letters either. But there is still hope, for Daisy the “fairy godsister” is going to arrive. But of course there is a catch. Read the book to find out the entire story of Daisy and Philippa on their 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd journey together.

I liked this book because it is exciting, surprising, and tells the story from both girls point of view. Many stories don’t do that. It is an amazing way of telling how they think magic works. I think that 4^th, and 5^th graders might like this book.

"Rules" by Cynthia Lord

Rules is a book by Cynthia Lord and has won the Newbery Honor award, and the Schneider Family Book Award. It’s a story about a twelve-year old girl named Catherine who has a brother with autism. She often finds herself thinking “Why is it me having to be the one with the brother who copies Frog and Toad sayings and reads every bit off video cases at the store?”

But not everything is lost. One day when David, her brother, goes to OT, she finds a friend that was found in the process of just sketching a boy in a wheelchair….

Some parts are funny, and some parts are sad, and you really feel what the characters are feeling. I think that it’s a very good book, and 3^rd grade level readers would like it too. That is just what I think. Other people could like it too.
